Modern wedding inspiration at the Giraffe Shed

Modern wedding inspiration at the Giraffe Shed

The Giraffe Shed is a stunning, and relatively new, wedding venue in Wales. With its pink wall and brick wall, it has an industrial feel surrounded by acres of green countryside – and that is what makes it so special, so modern and so different.

The concept – a pink wedding and a bride with a prosthetic

Margot and I worked together to bring this shoot to life and be inspiration for all couples to be. To show that with all the weight of traditions they carry, weddings are a celebration of love and should always reflect you. We went for a pink, burnt orange, and beige colour palette, using natural materials like raffia and dried ferns. We also wanted to play with see through materials or semi see through, like acrylic, silk and tulle – showing our stunning bride’s prosthetic leg.

The ceremony and the bride

The ceremony are was made of a half moon of dried ferns and flowers, and long silk panels cascading from the ceiling, and adorned with pillar candles. The bride’s wedding dress was pink with a satin bodice and shorts, and a pink tulle overlay with big sleeves and frills at the neck and wrists. Her hair was put up in a romantic updo, and she wore beautiful and modern jewellery. She also wore a pink cape, made in the same tulle as her overlay, with flowers sewn onto it.

The wedding dining table

The dining table was left bare to show the natural wood it is made of, and surrounded with benches for a communal and friendly feel. The centrepieces used the same ferns and flowers as the half moon and the bouquet, and candles were abundantly spread out on the beautiful silk runner that adorned it. The place mats we used were woven in water hyacinth, again for an organic and natural feel. The napkins used were silk, the plates were pink, and we used stunning white and gold crockery. The menu was part acrylic part paper, as was the stationery we used throughout the day.

The wedding cake table

We created two cake tables to show different looks – one on a pink backdrop, and one on a black backdrop. For the pink backdrop, we used a black table, with a silk runner, acrylic cake stands and candles. The trio of cakes was all hand painted, in different shades of pinks. They were adorned with ferns and flowers and one of them had an acrylic lift. Desserts like cookie sandwiches, mini cakes, hand painted sugar cookies, mini bundt cakes, dougnuts and mini tarts were scattered on the table to create a sweet grazing table effect – a buffet of sweetness for all to enjoy. We also added candles and floral installations on the floor in front of the table to frame it.
On the black backdrop, we put the floral installations on the table so they surrounded the cakes.

I hope this inspires you to have a wedding that is different and beautiful – just like you.
