Small wedding cakes

People often think that small weddings shouldn’t pull out all the stops. But I believe you deserve the wedding of your dreams, no matter its size, so you can celebrate your love while staying true to yourselves.

Whether you’re eloping, choosing to have an intimate wedding, or reducing numbers because of outside circumstances, you can still have a fabulous day and a fabulous cake. Having fewer guests means you can focus your budget on the areas that mean the most to you – and if that is food and cake, then we are made for each other!

what matters On your wedding day

  • You, having a fabulous time

  • Your guests, having a fabulous time

  • Full stomachs and full hearts

What doesn’t matter on your wedding day:

having the biggest cake, the most expensive ring, the grandest venue.

If you’re having a small wedding or eloping, there is no reason to scrap the idea of a stunning cake that reflects the two of you and what you love.

There’s no point in having so much cake that you’ll end up with unneeded leftovers or waste. The small wedding cakes pictured above feed roughly 25–35 people, depending on how generous you are with your cutting. (Just a note that some of my couples do choose to overcater on purpose, so they can buy biodegradable boxes or paper bags and send everyone home with cake for the next morning!)

Don’t feel pressured by the tradition that says your cake should be three tiers. Your cake could be one tier, two, three, five, eighteen – the only thing you should follow is your heart.

Let’s talk about your small wedding cake

Your wedding day is special because it is yours – not because of the number of guests you’re having.

Some of my couples who have small weddings opt for a cake as well as desserts, because you can still indulge in smaller numbers. You might send cake boxes to the guests who couldn’t attend, or those you didn’t invite but still want to involve; you might order edible bespoke wedding favours, or book a first anniversary cake in advance. There are so many ways to make your wedding day and your wedding cake special, even if your guest list is small.
