Being vegan, I know it can be really stressful to order food from places that are not vegan, and it’s the same when you are wheat free or have wheat free guests.
Here are the processes we have in place when making our wheat free wedding cakes:
Wheat free cakes are never baked on the same day as non wheat free cakes
Everything we use when baking wheat free is rewashed prior to use, and surfaces are cleaned and disinfected twice before starting
We keep our wheat free flour and wheat flour in different corners of the studio
We have a shelf dedicated to gluten and wheat containing products and all other shelves are for gluten and wheat free products
We have a dedicated gluten and wheat free fridge and freezer
Everything is thoroughly cleaned and all surfaces are disinfected daily
Cloths are also washed and replaced daily at a minimum
WHEAT FREE WEDDING CAKES
Our wheat free wedding cakes are made with spelt flour. Spelt is an ancient grain that creates beautiful light cakes. It has a slightly nutty flavour, but is of course nut free. Spelt does contain gluten, so it isn’t suitable for gluten free cakes, but works a treat for wheat free wedding cakes - and none of your guests will be able to tell the difference!
Spelt is close to wheat in DNA, so some people may have reactions to spelt if they have a wheat allergy. However, spelt is not wheat, and many people who cannot have wheat can have spelt. If you have any concerns, I’m more than happy to chat further with you.

Are wheat free wedding cakes more expensive?
We don’t charge more for wheat free cakes than we do for cakes with wheat flour, because I don’t think your health should dictate your ability to have a beautiful cake for your wedding.
If you and/or your partner are wheat free, I can make your whole cake wheat free if you wish. If you simply have a few wheat free guests at your event, I will make them a special cake on the side with no surcharge so they can still enjoy dessert.
Do wheat free cakes taste different?
They do have a slightly different taste to non wheat free cakes because spelt flour has a nutty flavour, and recipes have to be adapted to the different molecules that make up spelt. Wheat free baking is not just a question of taking any recipe and replacing the wheat flour with spelt flour! I promise you and your guests won’t be able to tell your cake is wheat free - in fact, my customers often have a moment of panic during consultations because they think I have forgotten the wheat free requirement. That’s how good our wheat free cakes are!
Can I guarantee the cakes are wheat free?
While we do our absolute best to make sure contamination risks are at their lowest, some of the ingredients we use are wheat free, but still have the “may contain traces of wheat” mention. Because of this, we cannot guarantee that wheat free cakes will be 100% free of traces of wheat.
