Small wedding cakes

Even before Covid19 hit and people had to have a micro wedding if they wanted to get married, small weddings and elopements were becoming more and more of a thing - which I obviously love and get behind as I believe every couple should do what is right for them, regardless of trends and traditions.

Micro weddings and elopements might be for you if:

-you have a shy or introverted personality and don’t want to feel uncomfortable in a large group on your wedding day;

-you want your wedding day to be focused on you and a handful of guests, with no distraction;

-you are not comfortable having a large group of guests, due to family or friend dynamics, and want to ease your planning by only choosing a few select people to spend your day with;

-you love images of micro weddings and elopements you see, and dream of your own;

-you want a wedding in a remote place, and don’t want to ask too many people to follow you or spend money to be there.

There are of course many more reasons why you may want a micro wedding or an elopement. If you have a select few guests, you may not want a big cake that will create plenty of waste - but as the tradition is to have a three tier cake and a lot of people think the bigger the cake, the better, it may feel like having a small cake won’t be special enough.

This blog post is here to show you that small wedding cakes can be as beautiful and as special as a big wedding cake, and I hope it inspires you for your own small wedding!

One tier small wedding cake inspiration

These small wedding cakes may be one tier, but they are stunning with beautiful florals, dried or fresh, and feathers, showing you that a one tier wedding cake can make a real statement.

Two tier small wedding cake inspiration

Two tier wedding cakes have both the positive aspects of a small portion count, but some height. This allows more designs and possibilities than on a one tier cake, and allows you to have two cake flavours - which explains their popularity.

ARE YOU AFTER A SMALL WEDDING CAKE?

How to have a stunning small wedding cake

People think of wedding cakes as dry and tasteless sponges; decorated in thick and tacky fondant. I make wedding cakes that not only look incredible, but taste delicious too, so your wedding day is as special as you deserve it to be.

Here are my top tips for a stunning AND delicious small wedding cake:

  • trust a professional to make your cake, who has a real understanding of cakes and experience in weddings. Creating a wedding cake that travels well, stays moist and fresh and can wait a day in a room before being cut without collapsing requires practise and knowledge;

  • think of all the aspects of your wedding and your decor as a whole. Statement small wedding cakes complement and add to your decor and the atmosphere of your wedding - how will it look perfectly in sync with the rest of your wedding?

  • spend time researching or talking to your cake designer about how to display your wedding cake. Setting it up surrounded by flowers, a balloon arch, or a stunning backdrop will make it shine brighter.
